Paul Wesley Benton, 91, went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2023. Paul was born on September 7, 1932, in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Richard and Helen Benton. He was a Poquoson resident for 74 years.
Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army and dedicated 42 years of his career to being a Master Machinist at the Newport News Shipyard. In addition to his professional commitment, he was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church, faithfully serving the Lord.
Beyond his work and spiritual devotion, Paul was a passionate advocate for Poquoson wrestling, showing his support as both a dedicated fan and a coach for youth programs. In a special honor, he assumed the role of the 2022 Grand Marshal at the Virginia Duals. In his leisure time, he found joy in hunting and fishing, and his exceptional craftsmanship and friendship earned him the title of "Shop Buddy #1" at Island Custom Woodcrafts.
Paul is reunited in heaven with his wife, Lillie Benton; his parents; and sister, Marian Morgan.
His memory is cherished by his daughter, Paulette Holloway and husband Kenny; grandchildren, Wesley Backus and wife Tina, Forrest Holloway and wife Kelly, Jamie Holloway, Danielle Griffin and husband Kevin, Justin Holloway and wife Chelsey; great-grandchildren, Brayden Backus, Mackenzie Holloway, Jayce Backus, Chase Holloway, Bailey Holloway, Hunter Brown, Heidi Holloway, Payton Holloway; niece Marissa Lovingood; nephews, Steve Jackson, Barry Jackson, and Allen Jackson, his faithful shop dog Kona, and all of the youth of Poquoson who called him Grandad.
A visitation will be held at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 6:00-7:30PM. A funeral service will be held at Claytor Rollins on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 1:30 PM with the burial immediately following at Parklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, Volunteer Fire Company and Poquoson Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary at 1035 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, VA 23662.
