Peter Joseph Girardi, 97, peacefully passed away July 28th from natural causes. He was a resident of York County, VA for the last 32 years.
Born March 19, 1925 in Mount Vernon, NY to Frank and Eloise (Boccardi) Girardi, he graduated from Mount Vernon High School and Fordham University. Peter proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the US Army 385th Infantry and participated in the liberation of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge. After a career as a buyer and salesman in household wares, he and his wife Jane retired to southeastern VA to be closer to family, but he remained a New Yorker at heart.
Peter was predeceased by his parents and his wife Jane Florence (Weldon) Girardi. He is survived by his three children; Frank (Anne Mackenzie), Janet (Bruce) Knight, and Jeanne (Steve) Sottosanti, his six grandchildren; David, Jennifer, Brandon, Peter, Benjamin, and Matthew, and his eight great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the kind and loving care from the staff at Warwick Forest, private caregivers, and Riverside Hospice.
Peter has donated his body to the Virginia State Anatomical Program and requested that no services be held. Donations in his memory may be made to the Poquoson Public Library or Riverside Hospice.
