Rachel McPherson VanKampen, 45, a devoted, humble servant went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 15, 2021. Born on June 24, 1975, Rachel was a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson. She was a hair stylist and nail technician until 2000. Then the Lord sent her to Orcutt Baptist Church to become a daycare teacher – where she would meet her husband, Jay. In early 2001, she returned working on client’s hair and nails and then onto becoming the office manager of McPherson’s Garage where she continued to share the message of her never-failing faith.
It could be said of Rachel that she walked in the love and light of the Lord. His love for her shined so brightly from her eyes that there was no doubt that she walked with the Light of Jesus around her. She lived The Word!
Rachel was a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church and faithfully read her bible, treasured her daily devotional and walking in the love and light of Christ. Rachel enjoyed playing with, teaching, and loving on her grandson, Dean. She loved all animals and she could be seen playing with her two Bichons daily – she was looking forward to getting the chickens she had ordered.
Rachel is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Jay VanKampen; children, Ashlyn VanKampen, Kelsie Holloway, Dennis “DJ” VanKampen; grandson, Dean Schuman; parents, Paul “Bubba” and Barbara McPherson; her faithful Bichons, Dash and Bandit VanKampen; and many loving friends and members of the community who were touched by her spirit.
