Robert Lee Austin, 90, of Poquoson, Va., passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose Marie, and his parents Henry and Rachel Austin of West Virginia. Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Sharon Hopkins (Gary), son, Wayne Austin (Donna), and daughter Diane Austin Cox (Tiffany); sisters, Elsie Griffith, Emily Badra and Connie Murphy; grandchildren, Dawn Dalton, Casey Dalton, Wyatt Dalton, Shawn Austin, Samuel Austin, Aaron Hopkins and Kristen Hopkins. In addition, he leaves behind seven amazing great grandchildren and a whole passel of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
Bob was born in West Virginia, served in the Navy, attended the Apprentice School of Newport News Shipbuilding where he worked for 42 years, and with an entrepreneurial spirit and relentless work ethic, he operated a transport service to the shipyard and later, his own charter bus company. He retired to enjoy his family and pursue his lifelong and avid love of golf. Golf and his golf buddies were an enormously important part of Bob's life. He enjoyed playing until just 4 weeks before his death. He will be sadly missed by all.
The family is at the home of Sharon and Gary Hopkins. Following the Commitment service, friends and family are invited to gather there to share food and fellowship.
