Rodrigo Daniel Hernandez, lovingly known as “Roy,” passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 21. Born in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Roy spent his life between Pensacola, Florida, and Yorktown, Virginia, touching the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Rodrigo A. Hernandez, and his grandfathers, Daniel Deibler and Rodrigo Hernandez. He is survived by his loving mother, Crystal Marie Hernandez; his older brother, Sean; his younger sister, Isabelle; uncle, Monty C. Bowles who was never far from his side; countless relatives; and his cherished pets—four cats and a dog who brought him so much joy.
Roy’s passion for life was contagious. He loved his family deeply, and his kindness, gentle nature, and ability to truly listen made everyone feel seen and valued. Soccer was his greatest passion, and he was a devoted Real Madrid fan—often heard celebrating with an enthusiastic “GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!” He loved to travel and had explored many countries, including Greece, UAE, Argentina, and Spain—falling especially in love with Madrid.
Roy’s faith was a guiding light in his life. He developed a strong relationship with God and the church, which gave him peace and purpose. Recently, he proudly achieved his dream of becoming a certified police officer, a goal he reached through hard work, dedication, and heart.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life honoring Rodrigo on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 4pm at Vida Abundante, 14859 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23608
Roy’s warmth, laughter, and love will forever live in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
