Sandra Bucher Moore

Sandra Bucher Moore, 77, entered into eternal rest on June 20, 2023.  She was born in Norfolk, VA, on January 5, 1946, to the late Clayton M. and Helen W. Bucher. 

Sandy is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, Robert Curtis Moore.  She called Poquoson her home after marrying Curtis on August 1, 1970.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kim Hendricks and husband Rich of Poquoson, Tara Woodruff and husband Ellis of Poquoson; grandchildren, Robert Snapp and wife Brittany, Meredith Woodruff, and Marissa Woodruff; one great grandchild, Reagan Snapp all of Poquoson.  She is also survived by three sisters, Linda Mathias, Nancy Baker and husband Vernon, Sharon Cahoon and husband Ed; nephews, Chris Baker, Clay Baker, Patrick Cahoon; niece, Ashley Cahoon.

She graduated from Granby High School in Norfolk in 1964 and Radford University in 1968.  After beginning her career, she decided that she wanted to further her education and went on to obtain a Master’s Degree from Old Dominion University. 

She devoted her life to serving the Lord.  Sandy was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Poquoson and later went on to join Yorkminster Presbyterian Church in Yorktown.  She rarely missed a Sunday service.

Sandy dedicated her life to teaching elementary students.  She retired after 34 years with Hampton City Public Schools.  During her tenure with the school system, she received numerous awards and accolades.  After her retirement, she continued mentoring new teachers.  She served as a member of the American Federation of Teachers. 

She loved being outdoors, taking walks, working in the yard and maintaining a vegetable garden, and baking.   She spent countless hours crocheting baby blankets and hats that she would donate to hospitals.  Sandy had a profound love for cardinals and the color red.  She enjoyed baseball and could always be found in front of the television watching the Atlanta Braves play. 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton.
