Sharon Hansford Garcia passed away peacefully on January 12, 2022 after a long brave fight with health issues. She was a loving, strong, fun, proud, funny, wife, mother, daughter, sister, family member, and friend. Sharon was born in 1952 and is a native of Poquoson, VA. She graduated from Poquoson High School and raised her kids in Poquoson. She worked most of her career as a medical administrative assistant for the state at Eastern State Hospital and Dillwyn Correctional Facility. She was also an EMT and volunteered over the years for the Poquoson and Dillwyn rescue squads. Sharon enjoyed her last 20 years living in Buckingham County with her husband Joe and dogs Missy, Budrow, and River. Sharon retired in 2014 and has been enjoying RV camping and spoiling her dogs and grandkids since then.
She was preceded in death by her parents Annie Elizabeth Hogge Hansford and George Maynard Hansford. She is survived by her husband Joseph Castillo Garcia, daughter Andrea Powell Arcona (Joe), son Marshall Callis Powell Jr (Donna), step daughter, Sarah Martinez (Desi), Granddaughter Annie Marin Arcona, Grandsons Antonio Marshall Arcona and Jace Gabriel Arcona, step-grandson Joey Bernard, and brother James Baker Hansford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad or the Humane Society. Visitation will be from 12-1pm on Saturday January 15, 2022, with the funeral service to follow at 1pm. Both will be at Claytor Rollins Funeral home – 836 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, VA 23662. Graveside Burial Service will follow immediately after at Eastern Cemetery, 205 Ridge Rd, Poquoson , VA 23662.
