Shirley "Joyce" (Landrum) Ballard

Poquoson - Joyce Landrum Ballard, 90, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, surrounded by her husband and family. Joyce, known to friends and family as Jo, worked as a caregiver and was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she kept the nursery for many years. Joyce shared her life with her soulmate, Gary Ballard, whom she met on a blind date. They were married for 72 happy years and raised 3 children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a wide knowledge of extensive family and friends and community members. Joyce never said “no” to a request for help. She made kindness and service her mission in life. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, William and Irma Landrum; brother, Donnie Landrum; sister, Josette Ellis and son, Bruce Ballard. She is survived by her husband, Gary; son, Gary Ballard, Jr (Valerie), daughter, Janet Goodman (Eric); grandchildren, Mason Ballard, Aaron Goodman (Kristin), Ryland Ballard (Amy), Daniel Goodman (Kate Fox), Jonathan Goodman (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Isabella Becker, Hayden Goodman, Kenneth Ballard, Hayley Goodman, Hilary Goodman and Avi Goodman. Joyce was lovingly cared for by Beatrice Jacobs “Ms. Bea”, Harriet Toney, Natalie Green-Neal, Elizabeth Wilson, Megan Johnson and Vernita Brown. Funeral will be Sunday, November 26, at 2:00 pm, with visitation immediately following at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. Burial will be held privately at a later date. IN lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 831 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, VA 23662.
