Sky Lynn Lightfoot (17), our bright beaming ray of sunshine, was born March 04, 2003 in Chesapeake, Virginia. She passed away peacefully in her home on August 28, 2020 after a long courageous battle against cancer.
Sky was the oldest of three daughters, and the greatest big sister and role model that our girls could ask for. Sky was a “fighter” and always found the “light” in every situation thrown her way. The girls all enjoyed playing Mario Kart together, though none more dedicated than Sky. She spent most of her time watching her favorite movies with friends and family. From Harry Potter (her favorite) to Disney or Marvel and everything in between. She could recite most of them line by line without skipping a beat.
She never met a stranger, and could instantly make new friends everywhere she went. She could light up a room with her beautiful brown eyes, melt your heart instantly with her contagious laugh and smile, and tell stories for days.
Her passion for animals was like none other. There wasn’t an animal that she didn’t love, or one that didn’t fall in love with her. Horseback riding was her other passion. She always seemed right in her element riding, never showing fear, as fear did not exist in her. Her love for helping others never went unnoticed and her dream was to become a therapy dog trainer, to train dogs to help others in need.
She was a rising junior at Hickory High School where she enjoyed taking part in after school activities that were near and dear to her heart, such as the Relay for Life Club. She took great joy in being able to be a part of such a wonderful club, that worked hard to raise awareness, and to make survivors feel more like Heroes, because she was one herself.
Sky is survived by her parents Jason and Jennifer; Sisters, Briana and Summer; Paternal Grandparents, Robert and Tammy Garner; Maternal Grandparents, Steven and Lois Smith; Great Grandparents, Connie Bunch, Gloria Smith, Shirley Martin, and Bob and Frances Garner; Aunt Ashley Balestino (Zack); Aunt Heather Smith (Larry); Cousin, Wyatt Balestino, and a host of great aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 6:30 PM on Wednesday September 9, 2020 at Greenbrier Farms, 225 Sign Pine Road Chesapeake, VA 23322
