Sonia Gale McMurray, 57, passed away on May 28, 2026. Born on October 24, 1968, in Poquoson, Virginia, Sonia spent the last 37 years as a resident of Yorktown, Virginia.

Sonia was known for her kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need. She found joy in giving to others and making people feel welcome. Her love, compassion, and selfless spirit touched the lives of many and will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is reunited in rest with her husband, Mark Montague; her father, Alvoid Shackelford, Jr.; her grandparents, Alvoid Shackelford, Sr. and Murdist Shackelford; and her nephew, David Shackelford.

Her memory is cherished by her mother, Freda Shackelford; her children, Matthew Foster (Bethany), Edward McMurray (Jade), Shandi McMurray, Dominique Montague, and Ashley Montague; her grandchildren, Mariah McMurray, Miona Jackson, Joshua Sadler, Jr., Addison McMurray, and Alexander Montague; her siblings, Alvoid Shackelford III (Beverly), Jeffery Shackelford (Robin), Rose McMurray (Darren), Julie Freeman (William), and Johnny Shackelford (Amy); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
