Stephen Ashton Hudgins, 68, of Poquoson, peacefully passed away on September 19, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born on May 14, 1955, in Newport News, VA, the only child of Jane and the late Harvey Lee Hudgins. He grew up in Hampton and Seaford, VA where he spent countless hours on the water. He loved boating and boasts many stories regarding his ability to navigate the most treacherous of conditions with ease.
Steve graduated from Hampton Roads Academy in 1973, University of Richmond in 1977, and T.C. Williams School of Law in 1980. He was an attorney in Hampton Roads for over 30 years before taking the bench as District Court Judge of the 9th Judicial District where he proudly served for 10 years. Steve retired this Spring to enjoy time with his family. Steve was an active member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in Tabb, VA for 34 years. He took pride in mentoring many in their legal careers as well as countless individuals through their faith journeys. He was involved in several community organizations including THRIVE Peninsula. He was a Shriner and proud member of Khedive Motor Patrol who enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson in parades and competitions. Steve’s life was full of adventure. His greatest adventure was with his wife of 39 years, Cathy, and their children and grandchildren.
Steve is preceded in death by his father Harvey Lee Hudgins. He is survived by his wife Cathy, children Stephanie Lee (Jacob) & Michael Hudgins (Emily), grandchildren Norah, Gabriella, Natalie, Elijah & Brian, his mother Jane Hudgins, as well as many friends and family.
A celebration of life with Masonic rites will be held at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, 6218 Geo. Mem Hwy, 23692, on Sunday, October 1 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, Blessings Fund, Yorktown, VA, or Khedive Motor Patrol, Transportation Fund, Chesapeake, VA or a charity of your choice.
