Thomas Evans Delk, of Poquoson, was welcomed home to Heaven on November 27, 2020. Tommy was born in Norfolk, Virginia in April 10, 1937 to Cherry Frances Butler Delk and Joseph Remney Delk. He was the second eldest of five children. He was raised in Norfolk, baptized at First Baptist Church in Norfolk, and graduated from Maury High School in 1955, where he had been co-captain of the football team. He served in the Virginia Army National Guard for 37 years retiring as a Master Sergeant, having received the Saint Barbara Field Artillery Award for exceptional dedication and service. He was also a crane operator for over 40 years and retired from ET Gresham and the local IUOE #47 in 1997.
Tommy was an exceedingly generous man, a wonderful provider, and follower of Christ. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back. He loved the Bible, building, especially anything Phyllis wanted, repairing old electronics and going out on his boat. Mostly, he loved being out on the back deck by the pond with Phyllis, chatting, and enjoying a cup of coffee. He will be terribly missed by family and friends.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Phyllis Firman Delk of Poquoson; sister, Barbara Thompson (Billy) of Pamplin, Virginia; children, Tammye VanClief of Ohio, Scott Brogden of Poquoson, David Brogden (Lisa) of Poquoson and Courtney Day (Windle) of Williamsburg; granddaughters, Amelia Sue Brogden and Jordan Elizabeth Day; great-granddaughter, Madison Brogden, and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be held at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Due to current restrictions, services will remain private. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad or Samaritan's Purse (P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607). Arrangements and heartfelt guidance are being provided by Claytor Rollins Funeral Home. Online condolences may be submitted to claytorrollins.com.
