Vincent Hershey Hood, Sr.

Vincent Hershey Hood Sr., age 104, originally from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at his home in Poquoson, VA, where he lived for many years. He was reunited with his beloved wife of 72 years, Lily (Williams).

Vince proudly served in World War II and later spent several years as a successful insurance agent. A skilled woodworker, he crafted furniture and supported Lil’s drapery business. He found joy traveling by RV with Lil, family, and friends, exploring scenic landscapes and historic sites across all 48 continental states, most Canadian Providences, and numerous National Parks. Vince enjoyed walking, riding his bike, reading the newspaper, and watching baseball. His cheerful whistling and singing will be fondly remembered.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Cattano; two sons, Harold (wife, Sandie) and Paul (wife, Cathy); his daughter-in-law, Sherry Hood; four grandchildren, Sherry Rebecca, Vincent III, Lily (husband, Jason), Mary (husband, Tyler); and three great-grandchildren, Vincent IV, Ella, and Luke.

He is preceded in rest by his parents, Anna (Clark) and Harold W. Hood; his son, Vincent Jr., and many siblings. His sister-in-law, Iva Lou Chustz of Louisiana, passed just days after his own passing.

The family would like to thank the employees of Medi Home Health and Hospice for the assistance they provided which allowed Vince to remain home in his final years. A graveside service for the family will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, VA, on Thursday, November 13th at 11am. If preferred, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Stroke Association, in honor of his late son Vincent Jr.
