Willa Kate (Williams) Shorter Obituary

Willa Kate Williams Shorter 89 of Newport News went to her Heavenly Home on 6/17/2026. She was born Willa Kate Lewis on 10/15/1936 to the late Leonard A. Lewis and Verona D. Lewis in Sevierville TN. Her parents bought an 80-acre farm in Meherrin VA in 1938 where she learned farming at a young age.

She attended Farmville VA High School where she met Edwin Dale Williams and was married in June of 1955 and had one child Terry Lynn Williams. Momma worked at Virginia National Bank in Farmville as a teller and worked her way up to the Supervisor of Bookkeeping and she was very proud of that.

She attended church regularly and loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a member of several clubs, the Redbud Garden Club, and won countless Blue Ribbons. She was also a member of the Classic Car Club in Farmville and was an excellent bowler where she bowled every Wednesday with her friends at Main Street Lanes. She was a member of the Peter Francisco Society and was a member of the Friends of the Library.

She had lots of friends and wasn’t shy about telling people about the Lord... trying to make Heaven crowded as Charlie Kirk said.

She moved to Newport News VA in 2018 and went into assisted living where she was well loved and cared for and could be close to her family living in Poquoson VA.

She is survived by her daughter Teri W. Young of Poquoson VA, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren Zachary (Zach) C. Williams, Camaron L. (Cami) Moody of Myrtle Beach SC and Brittany T. Young of Richmond VA. Great-Grandchildren Jacob C. Corrigan and Hunter W. Williams both of Poquoson VA., Palin G. Moody of Myrtle Beach and Wade M. L. Schuett of Richmond VA.

She had four siblings Mary Dell Bond of Richmond Hill GA and Donald Lewis of Farmville VA and was preceded in death by her brother Carroll Lewis and sister Wanda Faye Newton both of Meherrin VA. She had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly as well.

Momma will be missed but I know she is in Heaven with her family and friends that went before her and is probably rearranging and cleaning her mansion.
