William "Bill" Jones Obituary

Poquoson – William (Bill) E. Jones, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 after a lengthy illness.  

Bill was born on November 9, 1940 in Washington, D.C. and was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI).  He dutifully served as a decorated officer in the United States Army for more than 20 years.  Bill also enjoyed a long civil service career following his military retirement.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mabel Jones; his wife of 46 years, Betty Jones; his sister, Patricia Jones Hines; and by his grandson, Christopher Berry.

He is survived by his three daughters, Rebecca Siegel, Brenda Berry and Elizabeth Boucher; five grandchildren, McKenzie and Tyler Siegel, Matthew Berry and Sydney and Samantha Boucher; and his sister, Shirley Strong.

Bill was a resident of Poquoson for nearly 42 years and a faithful member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, serving as an usher and a popular Sunday school teacher.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home (Poquoson) from 2:00 to 3:30PM.  A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday , April 22, 2022 at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad.
